*** Content warning: Savage truths and brutal honesty ahead! ***

Let’s Set the Stage

An epic clash boils over, causing tensions to soar high and putting loyalties on the line. Could this be the multistore showdown that we know as BigCommerce Vs. Shopify? Your thoughts might charge in this direction, fuelled by their notorious reputations. However, prepare for an unexpected curve! BigCommerce, despite being a dark horse, outperforms Shopify when it comes to a powerful multi-store capability, earning a well-deserved triumph. Controversial as this might appear, it couldn’t be further from falsehood.

Where the Rubber Meets the Road

Before diving into this pool of technology tussle, let’s talk about our contenders briefly. It’ll help you understand why we’re making such a bold proclamation.

Say Hello to BigCommerce

BigCommerce, the open-source hulk, the unchallenged champion, offers unparalleled customization capabilities. Whether you’re a renegade indie developer or captain of an established e-commerce behemoth- you’re covered.
It makes a dashing first impression, with undeniable charm coupled with sheer power. Forget about compromising on your business needs. BigCommerce welcomes them all. A robust solution that’ll sail with you through the stormy seas of e-commerce, throwing up a hearty ‘Aye’ to every challenge spawned by online global marketplaces.

Meet Shopify

Then we have the humble Shopify, whose initial grace and guidance would’ve swept anyone off their feet. Aimed at SMEs, it’s eager for simplicity. It’s more of plug-n-play and “ease of use” personified. I can’t argue with that; a platform designed with non-tech-savvy users in mind does its job honorably. But when it’s about wrestling heavyweights, does it stand its ground?

Enter the Showdown

It’s BigCommerce Vs. Shopify. Each with its own victories, yet what makes BigCommerce inch forward in this multi-store front showdown? Is it the superior functionality? Or the jaw-dropping scalability? Come, let’s ferret out.

The Power of Complexity— BigCommerce

At first glance, BigCommerce seems overpoweringly complex, like a linguistic savant who insists on bloviating when a casual chat would suffice. But here’s the kicker—this complexity is not a flaw. It’s an attribute, a testament to its extensive capabilities.
BigCommerce gives you the reins. It allows you to shape your online store as best suits your brand, all while waving a friendly salute to the rapid, demanding evolution of the online marketplace. Does that require a bit of tech-savvy maneuvering? Oh, absolutely! But tell me, don’t the best things in life demand a little learning, exploration, and adventure? With BigCommerce, your effort pays back generously.

The Simplicity Slogan— Shopify

Contrariwise, Shopify plays on simplicity grounds. “Easy as pie,” they say. Cool, but there’s a snag. With ‘ease’ sometimes comes ‘limitations,’ and that’s where Shopify falls short in our multi-store front showdown.
Can you set up a basic store in no time? Sure. Can you customize it to your heart’s content? Oops, now we’re on shaky ground.
While Shopify does an excellent job at setting beginners on their feet, it needs to improve when you go for nuances, subtleties, and in-depth customization. Painful, right?

BigCommerce’s Unparalleled Multi-Store Capabilities

So, here’s another unignorable point –BigCommerce’s multi-store capabilities. It’s a robust solution that allows you to manage multiple stores from a single admin panel. Now that’s power for you, my friend.
Whether you’re targeting different markets, languages, or consumer segments, BigCommerce makes the process seamless. You can tailor and manage your various stores without breaking a sweat. To put it simply, BigCommerce is what you might call the master of multi-stores.
1. Multiple themes for distinct stores2. Language and currency customization3. Uniquely customized pricing strategies4. Specialised optimization as per the market

Shopify Stumbles— Siloed Stores

Shopify doesn’t shy away from multi-store management, but it totters. However, it demands separate Shopify accounts, which means more juggling, chaos, and overhead costs. It’s like having different wardrobes for each pair of jeans—hauntingly inconvenient. The rosy comfort of simplicity starts showing thorns, doesn’t it?

  1. How many large businesses (300m+) does BigCommerce run? Genuinely curious, as it seems that both solutions are meant for midmarket.

Multi-store doesn’t move the needle at all for most businesses and that’s really the only thing it seems BC has over Shopify.
